Question Toyota Yaris or other car recommendation

My oldest daughter's car died and of course my hubby gave her his car (giving this weekend) which is actually a piece of junk since it was my youngest daughter's car. (He gave the youngest daughter his nice Scion) You can see why my daughters always go to daddy for things - but anyways we need a new car that is good on mileage.

He is basically going back and forth to school now and he mentioned a Toyota Yaris...any knowledgeable members or other suggestions? He also mentioned a Nissan Versa
TIA

Oh my gosh the VERSA is CRAP!!! I test drove 3 different ones over the summer. They ride like a log wagon. Horrible road noise..its feels like you are sitting on the concrete. I liked the price on it but I just couldnt sacrifice that much comfort..it really was awful imo.
Never been in a Yaris..

My father in law has a 2 door Yaris... he likes it a lot and it gets great gas mileage. My sister in law has a 4 day Yaris and likes it a lot (just too small for her whole family to fit into it). You can't beat Toyota quality either!

Ford Motor Company is currently beating Toyota's quality on many of the cars. I would buy American. I personally love the Ford Fusion.

Um. I don't know anything about the other cars. We wanted a Toyota but couldn't afford one or the Subaru (my preference.) So we found a Chevy Malibu LS. It had enough room for our family of 5 including 2 boosters. I actually had 1 carseat and 2 boosters in it (barely.) Good gas mileage and I LOVE the manual option in LOW drive.

Thanks for the tip on the Versa - didn't even bother looking at them - ended up buying a Hyundai Accent. Appreciate your input ladies!!
