Nursery water scares me!

The following were revealed from declassified WWII documents:

Fluoride was the key chemical in atomic bomb production, according to the documents. Massive quantities of fluoride-- millions of tons-- were essential for the manufacture of bomb-grade uranium and plutonium for nuclear weapons throughout the Cold War. One of the most toxic chemicals known, fluoride rapidly emerged as the leading chemical health hazard of the U.S atomic bomb program--both for workers and for nearby communities, the documents reveal.

Much of the original proof that fluoride is safe for humans in low doses was generated by A-bomb program scientists, who had been secretly ordered to provide "evidence useful in litigation" against defense contractors for fluoride injury to citizens. The first lawsuits against the U.S. A-bomb program were not over radiation, but over fluoride damage, the documents show.

Yeah, I heard about that along with the new recommendations out by the ADA (American Dental Association) for people using nursery water to mix their children's formula. I guess to each their own and if they don't follow it, I suppose it's not the end of the world but I try to go with the health-concious recommendations. I know there are a few people on here who use nursery water so I thought it might be helpful for them.

Anything in large quantities can kill you, that doesn't mean it is bad for you.

Small quantities over very long periods can be harmful too. If you're going to put something in your childs body, it's best to understand the beneficial properties as well as the potentially harmful. But yes, to each his own. Not trying to start a debate here, just thought some parents would be interested in the knowing.

Yes, if flouride is so unsafe, then why do doctors give kids flouride drops who aren't getting it through their water? Just wondering, as I never understand why some things are safe to some and not to others.

I asked my kids' pediatrician the last time we were in the office about Nursery water & using it for my daughter's formula & about my kids drinking it & that was what the pediatrician told me. She said it was fine to use as long as it isn't the only thing that they are drinking all the time.

I agree with both of you. We don't use large quantaties anymore since my son is on whole milk, but before we never had any issues with it. I think people just want to find the WORST in everything.

I agree. people do find the worst in everything. And people are always scared of the unknown. How many people actually know their neighbours? you get the point. My son is using nursery water. If you don't thats fine. Do what you feel is right.
