These pellets are a life saver. I also purchased them online- paid too much for them. But later I found that most small local drug stores have them behind the counter, so you don't have to pay for shipping & handling.

I'm glad your baby benefited from them. Eventhough my little one wasn't colic...we occassionally go through a "witching hour" every night as my mother-in-law so lovingly refers to it. Gripe water is also great to use to calm the cranky times. This too could be found in the local drug stores.Have a great day !!

sucrose, chamomile, calcium phosphate, coffee cruda, & belladonna. I've only used these pellets a few times, but when i did it calmed the baby down.

I went to Walgreens yesterday and they had 2 different kinds. They had Humphreys & Hyland's. Both are the same only different brands. I bought the Hyland's since it was on sale. I couldn't believe that they were as cheap as they were especially coming from Walgreens!

Belladonna - WARNING
POSSIBLY SAFE ...when the standardized extract is used orally and appropriately under the supervision of a medical professional trained in the use of belladonna (2). Belladonna is available as a prescription drug in the US and has a narrow therapeutic index.
LIKELY UNSAFE ...when the standardized extract is used orally without professional medical supervision (12). ...when the unstandardized leaf, root, or other preparation is used orally (12). There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of belladonna for its other uses. CHILDREN: POSSIBLY SAFE ...when used orally in children older than 6 years old only under professional medical supervision. LIKELY UNSAFE ...when the leaf, root, or extract is used orally in children under 6 years old (12). There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of the topical or rectal use of belladonna in children. Adverse Reactions: Orally, belladonna can cause dry mouth, decreased perspiration, dilation of pupils, blurred vision, red dry skin, hyperthermia, tachycardia, difficulty urinating, hallucinations, spasms, acute psychosis, convulsions, and coma --------------------------------------------- "Severe side effects may be more likely to occur in infants and children, especially those with spastic paralysis or brain damage. Unusual excitement, nervousness, restlessness, or irritability and unusual warmth, dryness, and flushing of skin are more likely to occur in children, who are usually more sensitive to the effects of belladonna alkaloids. Also, when belladonna alkaloids are given to children during hot weather, a rapid increase in body temperature may occur....." From MedlinePlus: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/d...elladonna.html "In smaller doses, belladonna is traditionally thought to be safe, but may cause frequent side effects such as dilated pupils, blushing of the skin, dry mouth, rapid heartbeat, confusion, nervousness, and hallucinations. Based on animal study, belladonna alkaloids may inhibit cognitive function and gastrointestinal motility. High doses can cause death. In children, death can be caused by a small amount of belladonna. Several reports of accidental belladonna overdose and death are reported. Belladonna overdose can also occur when it is applied to the skin. Belladonna overdose is highly dangerous and should be treated by qualified medical professionals. Because belladonna can slow the movement of food and drugs through the stomach and gut, the side effects may go on long after the belladonna is swallowed." |

The info regarding Belladonna is helpful and insightful but don't let this info disway you from asking any doctor or pharmacist for direct info on its uses , causes and/or effects. If you are uncomfortable with the info regarding Humphrey's ....by all means ...just don't use the product. I, too, researched this product before I would ever consider its use( just like all medications whether they are for my child or myself). 3pellets contain0.0000095% alkaloids and there has never been a related death , illness or any severe side effects from Humphrey's #3 in over 60 years of production. Not only did I do my research, I consulted 3 pediatricians and 2 pharmacists before administrating this natural homeopathic preparation to my child. If you are uncomfortable with it....like I said, just don't use it. However your info was interesting and hopefully more information will help guide parents.
