Good idea. A photo of the box. But then they could fake that maybe?

I would let them know that you are going to contact the post office to see if they had noted any damage to the package (generally, if the person is lying this may have them change their mind......but maybe not???)

that sucks.....but it's one of the risks involved in dealing w/ people who you don't know.....hope you find an answer...

I had something similar happen .Someone bought a pair of boots off me and claimed they were in horrible condition. They filed a complaint with paypal. I told them to mail them back and I would issue a refund.
They mailed them back with delivery confirmation so they could show paypal they had proof-here is the kicker. They only mailed one boot!! Paypal refunded their money. I disputed it and had to fill out an afidavit and have it notorized and mailed in. When they got it they refunded the money back to me(I had stated that they did indeed send me one boot).
So maybe you need to say yes I will refund your money once you send me it back. Or wait for them to file with paypal. There is no way that the package broke unless someone did infact break into themsevles. Have them mail the box back too.

if you don't refund them, they are going to give you a negative feedback. Is it worth it? I don't know what your feedback is like, but if it was me, I would give the refund just to keep my 100% feedback score.

Maybe start taking detailed pictures of the items and package and keep it on file before you mail it out on your future sells. Sorry to hear about that!

I have people lying to me all the time on ebay anymore.... I tell them no refunds. I tell them too look in there package again because i count 3 times to make sure everything is there. I have this problem all the time and that is why I have plans to stop selling on ebay when I am out of stock.

I ended up issuing the refund, I figured I had no other choice and he did say that the package came wrapped in clear plastic which I did not do, so I assuming something happened at the post office and they put plastic around the package Anyway, I just wanted to make sure the transaction was satisfactory so I issued the refund and he was very satisfied and left positive feeback immediately.
