Home Remodelers - Let's share

Group Created by IFallsMichelle

I thought it would be fun to share information on our home remodeling projects, whether successful or disappointing. Plus share tips of what worked well and what did not. What products and tools you love or hate.

I don't know if any of you are working on projects now, but we are in the process of remodeling out kitchen. Everything is getting replaced including the floor. We are installing hardwood floor (natural ash) and installing natural oak cabinets.
The kitchen is a such a mess, I can't wait for it to be done. I am hoping by March 7th as my daughter's 4th birthday is the 8th!!!

I would be really interested to see photos of the floor. I could not be happier with the ceramic tile floor we installed this winter in our family room. Everyday my kids, my husband or myself are tracking in dirt and sand from the deck/backyard into that room. It is so so so much easier to keep clean than the carpet we had in that room.

I hate the vinyl floor in our kitchen. I can't wait to remodel later this year!

ok, my camera broke and I'm so mad but hopefully I can get the before picture off the memory card. We are finishing up the floor today. We put in natural slate tile. I'm going to put in the grout today and hopefully tomorrow have a functional kitchen again. All that will be left is the counter.

I would love to see your kitchen remodeling photos. We plan to remodel everything in our kitchen next winter. I am just starting to think about planning for it.

I wish I would have taken a before picture of my Kitchen and now I'm half-way thru. I will post when done. So far I have the cabinets re-finished, new hardware, all supplies bought and the walls are painted. We have left the floor installation, counter and sink. I can't wait till it's done! I also recommend going to the home depot do-it-herself classes. It was fun and I learned how to do the floor myself. I haven't tried it yet but I will be soon.

I would love to see anyone else's remodeling photos.

We also had paneling on the walls in this room. Last winter I used drywall tape and mud to seal the seams and then painted the walls. It was a fairly easy project although time consuming, but the results excellent. You can see the wall on the left side of the photo.

I will give it a try again, trying to post a photo of our new tile floor that we finished last night.

Okay we've been doing small remodeling jobs around our house for a few years. I decided I wanted the sand paint in my huge living room. It looks great but I now have a question. What if some day I don't like it? How would you take it off? Sand it off? Great ideal for a group. So you know what to do and what not to do! Thanks!

It seems like my husband and I have been remodeling for about 12 years - two different homes. We both work equally hard on the projects jointly.

Our current project is installing ceramic tile in our family room. The project is in the third week. I finished grouting today. It looks wonderful, but we had our problems.

The worst one being, do NOT save dry motar mix to use in the future. We had a partial bag of motar left from a tiling project at our old house. I laid 26 tiles with this motar only to find out a few days later, all the tiles were LOOSE!!! Make sure you purchase fresh dry motar mix. Not only did I have to reinstall 26 tiles, I had to scrape off the motar from the floor and from the bottom of the tiles before I could reinstall them. I was so angry at myself for using old motar mix. It made a huge mess too.

Now, all that is left is for my husband to install the floor trim and for me to seal the grout. I am so excited to have the new floor!!!
It will be so easy to keep clean.
