Jif Creative Recipe Contest Can Help Pay for College
Jif Peanut Butter, a brand of the Orrville, Ohio-based J.M. Smucker Co., is currently accepting entries for the Eighth Annual Jif Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest. Through Nov. 13, 2009, parents can help their 6- to 12-year-old children submit a creative sandwich recipe for the chance to win a $25,000 college scholarship fund. Four runners-up will each get a $2,500 scholarship fund.
“For the past seven years, Jif has been committed to nurturing creativity in children while engaging families in the kitchen,” noted J.M. Smucker Co. director, corporate communications Maribeth Badertscher. “Lifelong skills such as measurement and teamwork can be taught as parents and kids enjoy making memorable mealtime moments together.” The original recipe submissions, which must contain at least two tablespoons of a Jif Peanut Butter variety, will be judged on creativity, nutritional balance, taste, appearance and ease of preparation. Ten semifinalists’ recipes will be chosen in January 2010 and posted online, where peanut butter fans age 13 and up can vote for the five finalists who will take part in a live judging event in New York during March 2010. "I'm still in my first marriage. I know it's wrong to talk about it so temporary like that. My current husband hates it when I do that."
