Well, this tip is NOT mine, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Keep a container in your freezer for leftovers. Veggies, gravy, meat stock, etc. When the container is full, throw the entire thing into the slow cooker for 6-7 hours on low. Add water.

When it's done you have soup and another night's dinner!

I haven't done this yet because I don't have room, however, it's in the plans!

I keep dry milk on hand at all time. I use it when ever anything calls for milk and I have been know to mix it with regular milk when my family was all here. If you mix it just tiny bit richer then what the package calls for it taste like whole milk. It has no fat and all the same goodness that regular milk has. When I mixed half dry milk and half regular milk . my family never knew. when the cantainer would start getting down to about half I would mix in the powder milk. they just thought I had bought more milk as usual. puddins are great with it. cake mixes, hamburger helper, scallopped potatoes, mac & cheese. It works for anything that calls for milk and they can't tell the difference. It will save you alot of money and as high as milk is right now. I am sure some are conserving on milk when they bake. no need anymore if you use powdered milk. you can get lots of goodness in your family and it is so much better for your children because it is fat free.

I just did this yesterday and I do it quite often actually...

Anytime I catch myself saying the old "we don't have anything to eat" routine, I will get a pad and pen and scour the cabinets (you know all that stuff that is in the back of the cabinets, in the bottom of the freezer, etc.) and make a list of all the meals that I can make out of what we have in our cabinets. I will go out and get the essentials for that week (bread, milk, eggs, butter) and then use my list to make dinner each night of the week. After just about 5 minutes of looking, I had come up with 6 or 7 whole dinner meals out of just what we already had! There is no end to how much money I have saved by NOT going to the grocery store when I honestly just needed to do some digging!

Also, just for kicks here are the meals I came up with (all of themare extremely cheap to make)...

*Grilled cheese & tomato soup
*tuna melts & french fries
*spaghetti
*fettucini alfredo & italian seasoned chicken strips
*corn dogs & macaroni and cheese
*BBQ'd beef roast with baked potatoes & canned biscuits
*chicken strips & onions with ranch on tortillas

I always keep a bag of frozen skinless chicken at all times (either strips or breasts) - they always run a B1G1 free special on these every once in a while at most grocery stores and I usually buy 2 then. There is no limit to what you can do with skinless chicken meat and you can thaw it in the microwave in just a few minutes right before dinner.

Also here is another budget meal tip - only buy meats on sale! I will only buy roasts and steaks if they are dirt cheap, then I just put them in the freezer. I also always check the bin in the meat section where they put the discounted meat. It really doesn't matter if it is a couple days away from date when I am just going to put it in the freezer anyway! You can save tons of money doing this. I have gotten ribeyes for 3.00 each and lots of other great deals like that! Also don't be against trying some cheaper cuts of meat and slow cooking it. Any cut of meat will be tender if it is cooked for 8 hours! Plus also keep in mind the other parts of the chicken other than breasts like legs and thighs. They are extremely cheap (I got a 7 pc pack of chicken legs the other day for around 3.00) and they make just as good fried chicken as the breasts do!

I Re-use The Gerber Baby Food Containers. The One's That Look Like Disposable Tupperware. I Use Them For Lunches. I Fill Them With Applesauce, Peanut Butter For Celery Sticks. Then I'm Not Mad When My Son And Husband Toss Them. I Also Just Started Washing Some Of My Ziploc Bags.

Here's a cheap meal:

diced up cooked chicken+white rice+cream of mushroom soup+seasoned to tasted=one great (cheap) meal! (of course, combine them into one pot).

Also, I combine ground beef, baked bean, tiny bit of maple syrup, bbq sauce, ketchup and some seasonings into one pot. We call them Hamburger Beans and everyone loves them.

Quesadillas are such a cheap meal--all you need is cheese and soft tortillas. They take a few minutes to melt and then you have an easy, inexpensive meal. Cook up some refried beans or rice to go with the meal if you want!

I also save them. I do a lot of baking so I always have extra icing on hand. I just store it in these containers and when I have a few different kinds/colors I make cupcakes.

I save any left over vegetables and beans and when I have enough I add them to a beef stock and make soup.

When cooking meats such as roast one night we will eat rice and gravy and the next we will have rost beef sandwiches. It is cheaper to but 1 pound more and making 2 meals.
Also we will order just one pizza and make tomatoe soup or a garden salad to go with it.
