but I live KY and go the OB in OH. The same one I went to with Aiden as a matter of fact, and they've never had a problem with my outta state insurance!! I have the ky medical card btw, I forgot to say that. I always just handed it to them, they run it through, and bill ky for the visits. It never even occured to me before that it could be a big deal...I wonder why things are so different in different places

I live in Arkansas and have medicaid also... I've never had to switch doctors though and had no idea it was such a big deal. I don't understand why it would be?! I believe you... just don't understand why. LOL I just hope that it's not anything too serious and that you can afford to wait. It's great that your husband is so supportive and willing to help! Kudos to him! Take care of yourself and that precious baby!

I know how dealing with state insurance can be. When I was pregnant in Nc we had to go to the health dept. dr until or IF we were classified as high risk. THEN they switched us over. We couldn't choose the dr we wanted and we were stuck with them for the rest of the time. If you weren't high risk whoever was on duty during your labor delivered your baby. The dr that saw you in the health dept. couldn't deliver babies though. and MAN was he hateful I seriously was so glad to be switched out at 30 weeks.

Why does so much in Arkansas when dealing with government services have to be such a big deal? When you switch your kids doctor on state insurance, it's easy -- you just call and they make the switch in the computer. But, when you try to get them into the new doctor, even if it's in the same practice, they're classified as a new patient and aren't priority when they're sick. You also can't take kids or yourself to a walk-in clinic like PrimeCare after normal doctor office hours and have it paid for by Medicaid. Learned the hard way & am now paying for Mikayla's office visit from May when she had strep out of pocket. Basically, instead of going to the walk-in clinic for $90 charge to insurance, they want you to go to the ER for a $300 charge to insurance.
Or when you try to get foodstamps, it is a 60+ day process. They ask for proof of income, you provide actual check stubs, but it's not enough & you have to get your employer to fill out 3 forms that say the same thing & then the caseworker gets 3 weeks from the day you turn the info in to do anything with it. I'm just going to take it easy until my appointment and go from there. It seems the less I do, the less pain I have. Quote:

Here, it's just a nurse practioner at the health department. You have to treat with them until you get Medicaid approved and can get into the Medicaid approved OB. I was able to get in fairly quickly with the OB at 15 weeks because I was being monitored for gestational diabetes by the health department because my sugar levels were messed up at the first part of my pregnancy. My current OB hasn't checked my sugar levels since I began treating with him but go do that next week at 27 weeks.
I don't think I would have liked just being delivered by whatever doctor was on call, especially on Medicaid. I went through that with my first daughter since the practice was a rotational schedule & it was horrible. After my c-section, I refused to be treated by the doctor that did the c-section because he was a jerk & kept saying pain and excessive bleeding was normal. 10 weeks after my c-section, I was still bleeding like a stuck pig and couldn't stand up straight without nearly passing out, my normal OB/GYN who was in the same practice as jerk ordered 2 different ultrasounds & a ct scan and found I was still hemorraging internally and put me on clotting meds & I was fixed within days. After that point, I became high risk and didn't have to deal with the rotational schedule when I got pregnant with my 2nd daughter 16 months after my 1st c-section. Quote:

Marla, you could be right about it just being Faulkner County. Mikayla was on SSI (disability) from 2003-2005 because of her GERD & G-tube and she was automatically on Medicaid because of it so we dealt with Benton County DHS and never had issues like what we've had here in Faulkner County. The workers at the Faulkner County DHS office are rude and so are many at the health department and they don't offer any help -- it's like pulling teeth to get answers. Maybe it's because there are just so many people getting or applying for services now because of the economy and the workers are overwhelmed or maybe it's just the leadership down here, IDK, but it's not a fun task dealing with them.
